Astrophysics Holiday Studio | 5-Day Programme
A Journey Through the Life Cycle of Stars
Blast off on a five-day journey through the birth, life, and spectacular death of stars in this immersive, hands-on holiday studio led by Youssef Abdulghani. Combining science and creativity, students will explore the cosmic "recycling system" that created the very atoms in our bodies.
Day 1 — The Cosmic Nursery
Journey to the nebula. Discover how gravity collapses giant clouds of gas and dust to ignite the very first sparks of a "protostar."
Day 2 — The Sun’s Golden Age
Explore the "Main Sequence." Learn how stars like our Sun create light through nuclear fusion and stay stable for billions of years.
Day 3 — Red Giants & Expanding Suns
Witness the transformation as stars run out of fuel. Study the expansion into massive Red Giants and the glowing shells of Planetary Nebulae.
Day 4 — Supernovas & Heavy Elements
Experience the universe's most violent explosions. Explore how Supernovas forge the gold and iron found on Earth and leave behind ultra-dense Neutron Stars.
Day 5 — Black Holes & Cosmic Rebirth
Face the mystery of Black Holes and the "Event Horizon." Discover how the "stardust" from dead stars provides the ingredients for new planets and life.
Led by Youssef Abdulghani
Dr. Youssef Abdulghani is a Research Fellow in Human-Centric AI at the University of Nottingham, with a PhD in Astrophysics from Montana State University supported by NASA. His research has explored black holes and our Milky Way galaxy, and he brings real research experience, warmth and enthusiasm into every session.
